can anyone help.
my dad has an audi 80 18e on a j plate (1990 i think) that is refusing to engage the starter motor and the fuel pump.i have checked the fuses and relays and they seem ok.the starter was taken out and tested of the car and seems to work fine.i was just wondering whether there is a reset switch of some kind built into the car.there is no cut out switch that i am aware of.thanks in advance for any advice.

there is no immobilser.
I have spent the best part of the day testing the wiring and it all seems ok.
but there is a strange thing going on with the wiring as when i put a direct live from the battery to test anything the wire is not live but when i short the battery it is ok.

HI have you checked the engine earth strap.it sounds like the starter is not earthed.i would put a wire to the pos of the battery and just flash it onto the starter casing,if it arcs you know its earthed if not check the earth strap.
