Our house has no central heating currently (total refurb underway), and I am head scratchin as to what might best. My main questions are -

Would it be possible to install a gas combi boiler (using bottled gas), linked to a multifuel stove? Would an ordinary boiler be better? Or would a "heat accumulator" style cylinder plus stove and back boiler be ok?

The background is:

3 bed end of terrace, decent sized family house but with only the two of us in it. We both work odd hours, sometimes work away, and sometimes work at home. No gas in the area (near Bangor, north wales), neighbours tend to use oil, electric or solid fuel.

My plan definitely involves a multifuel stove in the living room (see my other thread about fireplace lintels - its a decent sized fireplace). However, given the way we live, it seems like using a stove with backboiler might not be the way to go. Equally, it seems to make no sense to have a stove installed without a backboiler on it.

I feel Im going round in circles with no real way of knowing what might be best?! Any help much appreciated.

Using two heat sources isn't as simple as it may seem. You will need to install a "neutraliser" not just connect them to each other.

Thanks - a good link (confusing if you dont know much about central heating systems, but I am learning!)

Most of what I know comes from boilerstoves.co.uk which a good site, but lacking on nitty gritty.

Is a neutraliser an absolute must if linking systems up (assuming a linked system is the most sensible)?

And any thoughts on how long a "heat accumulator" actually holds it heat for?

One last one :D

Ive jsut read about "H2" panels, which seems to be pretty clever - do these negate the need for a neutraliser?
