Basic safety tips

At the same sort of age, an uncle of mine made me a crystal radio with carbon earphones (ok, I might be giving my age away here...)

Heh I made one of those from the Lady Bird "How to build a crystal radio" book when I was about 10. Don't imagine there are too many kids doing that anymore (more's the pity)

Heres another one that did!

1967 just started seniors. Little ear piece that looked suspiciously like grand dads hearing aid!

I must have been around 10 and having found electric fences in the countryside, decided to make my own. Erected over the lawn, fed direct from the mains, I noticed that worms started to surface around a 2 meter radius from the point where I'd earthed one of the two wires from the bayonet plug. Fortunatly, I decided not to test the fence.

That safety sheet in the OP's link has a curious method of replacing a blown fuse in a 13A plug:
You simply need to unscrew the screw holding in the fuse and take it out and replace it with a new one. Ensure you replace it with the same type of fuse that was there. Srcew the fuse back in, ensuring the wires are all secured in the correct position and screw the back onto the plug.
