My bath has a single light operated by a pull cord. I'd like to add an extractor fan operated by the same pull cord. The exixting cables are the 'old' type (Red, Black) renewed in 1995.

I have a wiring diagram for adding the extractor fan. I need help (I am a complete novice and somewhat petrified as that when it comes to electricity).

1. Some basic notes on connections so that I can reassure myself that the wiring diagram I have is correct.

2. If the fan has a pull cord switch also, does this complicate matters, i.e. should I get one without?

3. What needs to happen to have the fan's pull cord switch off the fan and leave the light on (switched on by its pull cord).

Many thanks for your help.

Hello,

You should take a 3 core cable ( live, switched live, neutral )from the light to a 3 pole isolator, then onto the fan This will enable you to fit a fan with timed overrun etc.

Most fans come with wiring diagrams for different connection methods.

Notifiable work ????

I hope that this is of some help.
