batten lampholder in bath

Hi,
I have the lamp holder shown in the attached picture in the bathroom. I believe it’s called “batten lampholder”.
Does anybody know if it’s safe to use that in bathrooms. Is there any type of shade that can be fitted so that the lamp is not exposed?

If it is more than 2.25m from the floor and more than 600mm from a vertical line up from the edge of the bath then it is allowed.

Having said that, today it will likely be classed as 'unsuitable for the environment' but as it has probably been there 'for ever'...

You could, if worried, replace it with a globe.

I wouldn't recommend keeping it, even if it's outside Zone 2 //www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:bathroom-zones.

Replace it with a proper bathroom light.

If you find you have more that a single L, N & E at the old light, learn how it works before trying to change it, and make sure you mark which is the switched live. //www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:lighting
