Battery disconnection, vauxhall Corsa 98

I know I've missed something really obvious, but I thought I'd be able to disconnect the battery with just my hands. Is this the case? or do I need tools?

youll need tools to loosen the battery terminals

NOTE: radios etc might not like bein without power and you may need a code to unlock them

And good practice to disconnect negative terminal first. And connect negative last.
