We bled our bathroom radiator last night - but didn't get any water out.
When turned on heating today, a minute in a big loud clanking type noise and no hot radiators. Initially the overheat light was on - have reset this and light now off.
We then loosened big silver screw on pump as instructed on another posting. The screw inside was spinning.
Know very little about boilers so any help would be welcomed.
thanks

Sounds like not enought water in the system if it is fed via a small tank in the loft check that the ballvalve hasnt stuck and there is water in the tank , if there is it could be a blocked feed from the tank into the system .

We live in a flat. There is a small water tank in the wall above the boiler. How do we check if there is water in it - there are two taps, should we loosen one of them?
Sorry to ask but really don't have a clue about boilers and its freezing here tonight.

Put your hand in the tank and feel for water if you cannot see into it.

Feel the ball valve and press down on it. It it has stuck up, then this may release it, filling the tank.

If the tank is full then you have a blockage as said. It will be in the joint where the pipe from the tank tees into the other heating pipe work.

Not a job you will be able to do tonight though, as it will need cutting out and replacing.

Thanks for the suggestions. We couldn't access the water tank but a phone call to my father-in-law and a bit of guess work sorted the problem. The pressure was low and we found a screw that allowed more water in. Now warm!
