All the troubles at the BBC could be turned around and used as a stick to beat the beeb with ,this could give the government the leverage to get rid of it, do we want it?

A licence to watch TV!
100% agree with jobandknock - been to the USA quite a few times in recent years and there TV has nothing on BBC. We don't want to get rid of one of our best television producers in this country.
Although saying that TV does need a bit of a shake up - what's with all these reality TV programs that we get bombard with year after year? Even the mighty X Factor has run its course and now is failing to attract the same audience it once did.

It already is! TV licence.
The license pays for, other than BBC production, the upkeep of the broadcast network. Including the radio you don't have to pay for.

The absurd situation of it is if I have a TV only to watch DVD then legally I still need a TV licence.
If I only watch Sky, ITV CH4 tc I stll have to pay for the BBC via a TV licence.
If you're that bothered about it then don't watch it and when you get hassled withdraw their implied right of access to your property...There is no logic in a BBC fully funded by compulsary public subscription, outdated means of funding IMHO.
You have to have a licence if the tv is capable of receiving signals.
If you use a computer to watch catch up etc, do you need a licence. My guess is no, as the detector van wont find the tv signal.
