I was my mates labourer when I got him to do work on my house and this is what he told me to do...... In the cement mixer goes the following....(Water should always be in it to start with) , 6 good shovels of ballast, then half a bag of cement followed by another 6 good shovels of ballast, put water in as nec. when you empty the mix into the barrow, put some water into the mixer before you go off with the barrow.
A good tip..... If you have had the sand delivered as a big tonne bag, put a few bags of cement on top but out of the way. Then as you need the cement use a saw to cut through half the bag taking care not to spill any when you lift it to the mix. It is much quicker.
