Agree with JR there, as long as you run the trowel across the wall at the bottom so it is plumb and the plaster is low enough to give a good backing for the skirting but high enough from the floor then it doesn't matter, what you have shown looks fine.

I remember at the time looking at my first plastering in the house and thinking it was good. Now I look and I cringe at the untidy edges.
Though I think I might get into trouble with the missus if I start re-skimming finished rooms at this stage
