Hi

I want to block pave the drive but lay blue slate in the area in front of the windows which a car will also park on. There will be a transition from blocks to slate. What is the best way to make sure this border doesn't collapse over time? Should in lay pin kerbs in concrete as a border to the blocks or will haunching border blocks be okay?

Thx

Lay the border on a concrete brace (strip). Haunching wont hep on it's own.

If your slate is the right sort (thickness) for paving it needs bedding down onto hardcore with a full mortar bed. It will be as secure as the block paving.
See http://www.pavingexpert.com/stonpv02.htm

My own block paving abuts flags without any need to restrain the paving no problem in 20 years still. My flags are bedded on a full bed of weak sand/cement old 3' x 2's
