I am building a single storey extension and want to install a folding sliding door along the whole of the external wall. Is there a minimum the 2 nibs have to be to qualify for building regs.
Not sure what you mean by 2 nibs but there are minimum dimensions for openings from the corners of a wall. For some strange reason the ODPM has recently made this information a little more difficult to find; probably why there are still websites out there making a good living charging 15 quid or so but here it all is for free!
Butressing at corners should be a minimum of 665mm (3 bricks) externally under building regs approved documents.
Less is possible - but the BCO may well insist on calculations to prove stability. Despite the fact that you can look across the road/down the street and see many houses with windows and doors right on the corner, and amazingly, they are still standing up!
In practical terms, the minimum would be to allow for the curtains inside - about 150mm internal
Woody spot on. You are right, the bad thing is my BCO has been round twice now but not noticed the problem on my design, lucky the doors $$$ arent ordered. Look at this link, for those who want to build and design without watsing thier time and money on Architects who still dont know the rules.
