Hi Guys

I bought the above lovely car last night as a private sale. I can't seem to get the CD multichanger to work (6 cd's BMW with a slide front). When I press the ON button nothing happens, and the unit in the car is displaying 'No Disc'. I think there is a disc in the multichanger.

Any ideas? I'm upset about this because I didn't ask to see it working when I purchased the car so I feel a twit.

Why not give the previous owners a call back and see what they say? Express that you're not after any refund (fat chance) but ask if they've had this problem before.
If no joy, find an in car entertainment specialist (yellow pages) who are sure to have seen this one before.
...and no way can you be expected to try everything in a new vehicle at time of purchase...I'm still not sure if my car has an alarm and its 5 years old!
John :)

I think I have a 6 disc changer for that car. If it comes to the worst, gimme a shout.

It was freezing cold, windy and dark - I just wanted to drive home. I have sent him a text, but he has ignored me as I thought he would. I will try again and let him know I don't want to get cross, just need advice. I think I'll go to Halfords tomorrow. Incidentally I have no idea whether I have an alarm or not, that can wait a few years!

Did you buy this vehicle
from a mobile phone only, contact number?Have you positive proof of where the vendor lives? i don't wish to cause alarm, but you should never buy a car, unless you have a valid landline number as well as mobile, or proof of where the individual who sold you the car lives or indeed that he owned the vehicle.

What do yo mean you 'think' there's a disc in the CD changer? Either there's a disk in it or there's not. Open the cover, remove the carriage and put 6 disks (if it's a 6-disk changer) and put it back in and try again to get it to play a disk. If this doesn't work check that the plugs are in ok. One at the changer itself and the other behind the radio etc on the dash.

or it might be a disc slipped inside, you might have to take the thing apart??

The 6 disc system (alpine) are renowned for sticking, one of the discs will be stuck in the main drive sometimes a few knocks on the top (after pressing the green button) release it but get ready to replace the complete changer, they can be taken apart if you are ok with small parts, if the knocking don't work what you got to loose, someone has already said they have one should it all go pete tong!! good luck, and yes you do have an alarm as well as engine imobilisation from the key.
