Boiler Problem

Sounds as if the pump is not circulating water in spite of his assertion that the "pump is fine".

Boiler then overheats and shuts down!

I once went to one of these which was 17 years old and the thermostat had failed. It had NEVER been serviced or repaired and was surprisingly in VERY good condition!

Problem Solved: For some reason the pliot light was getting blown out, thus shutting down the system. I've since cleaned the pilot nozzle and had a good clean up inside the combustion chamber and burner assembly, and now everything works fine.
