We just had an extension built (for the Mother in Law - ahh!) The plumbers linked her 4 rads from an old rad in the hall, trouble is now the system is having trouble pushing through the heat into this part of the house, our part is nice and warm but hers is cold. If I shut off the TVRs in our part, the heat gets through ok, but once the system cools down, the same thing happens. Does anyone know of a booster pump which we can use to help the flow through these extra rads? (presume it would turn on when if detects the flow from the boiler and help the hot water along!)
Cheers

Sounds like your system need balancing to achieve consistent heat throughout all your radiators, your plumber should have done it when adding the extra rads. You may also be able to turn the pump up. Ask the builder to get the plumber back.

How exactly has he installed the new rads.

Are they all in series run of supplies teed of an old rad.

They pretty much loop around from the old rad in series, where the old rad was there is now a new loop of 4 more rads!

Sounds like your plumber has connected the new rads onto a circuit that is not capable of handling the increased load of the new rads - regretfully a very common bodge with extension work normally carried out by people who don't have a clue how to design heating systems. If the new system does work it is often more by luck than judgement.

The correct procedure would have been to investigate the existing circuits and, if necessary, upgrade those to handle the greater load of the new rads even if this means going back to the boiler.

Putting a second pump in will probably cause problems in the existing system.

Get the plumber/builder back and tell them to do the job properly at no additional cost to yourself.
