Bora 1.9 TD loose alternator pully wheel

The job is done but damned fiddly.

Both the alternator and p/steering pump are a very tight fit on their brackets and to get the bolt holes aligned is a job in itself.

Does anyone know why they are a friction fit on their brackets ?

I can't speak for the power steering pump but all alternators (certainly on most cars) have a sleeve through one of the bolt holes which, when fitted, pushes against the bracket as you tighten it up. Best give the alternator a good wriggle when removing and push the sleeve back further when out the car to make life easier when refitting.

Sometimes the sleeve is on the bracket instead.

My apologies for previous comments. I was referring to the P/Steering pump when I meant the a/c pump at the bottom of the engine.

mfarrow,

You are indeed correct about the sleeves. I've now realized the both the alternator and the a/c pump have them on the rear mount brackets and I should have pushed them out slightly when refitting. One for the book of experience although its not a job I care to repeat in a hurry.

I've had word from my sister that all is well with the Bora.
