I notice that BT have a New Broadband Speed test.
I used is and it returned a speed of 57 mps download.
Then I tried Broadband Speed Checker and it returned a speed of 29 mbs download.
I carried out several test using each test provider, with similar results
Why the difference and which do I believe?
I personally don't believe the BT result and how can the result be challenged the result with my Broadband provider 'Plusnet' (which is of course BT)?

Just completed another test using the BT Speed checker and I return 103 mbs.
I definitely don't believe that one

Thanks for your reply Stivino, But that doesn't address my question.

seems to be giving correct results for me
I often use
speedof.me
as that will work on iphone, ipads and andriod devices as well as laptops and pcs across OS system
they all seem to match ok

To do an accurate speed test I would download something from a reliable server like Microsoft and see the speed that way. Speedtest sites are hit or miss. If I go speedtest.net I get wild speeds depending on server.

have you tried fast.com?

Thanks for your replies.
Fast.com gives me a result of 22mbs, speed.me gives me 28mbs.
BT still gives me around 59 mbs.
Raises the question why ??

I am sure you are right lamchomps.
I will take it up with Plusnet, but trying to get a chat with them is virtually impossible in this C-19 lockdown.

works for me and correct speed on two different networks - compared with speedof.me and also an apple ap on appleTV

If your on plusnet, i see they use BT test
and what speed was you told you should get
Often supplies will give an estimate and a much lower guarantee , i have between 35-38Mbps but have a guarantee at 30 i think it was

it will also vary if on wifi and where located, i try and use a PC/Laptop connected by ethernet
OR loginto the router itself, some have a speed summary page

I’m paying for 35mbps with Vodafone. Just run the BT speed checker twice. I got this:

This is what I got with Speedtest.net.

i'm also on vodafone @ around 35mbps
from my wifi laptop Mac using the 5GHz signal quite a distance from router 10m or more + walls

Bt Site matches the Speedof.me site

eta - I was told a speed of 36mbs was to be expected, still I get different results from testing with Identical configurations.
mottie - I see you get two widely different results from BT speed test one of which is near to your speediest.net. Your result from BT at 73.75mbs is as suspect as my results, In my case I get consistent results from BT of around 60mbs and confident resist from other speed test sited of around 25mbs.
In the end I am no further forward.
I will have to take it up with Plushest when I have the time to wait for a reply from them.
