Building quote breaking down labour and materials?

Hi, I've got a building quote in for a large project.

It simply states costs of combined labour and material ie roof £4995, brick and block work £5250 etc.

Is this how most quotes will come in or should they state charges for materials and cost of labour which is preferable.

Thanks

The only relevant figure to you is the combined one.

If you are asking him to supply and fit then you get one figure

He probably knows that if he gives you a material and labour price separately, you will then say something like "But the blocks are only 50p at Wickes" and "£140 per day is more than the bloke down the road charges"

It's not usual practice under standard form contracts to separate materials and labour. Although if you are not using a standard form there's nothing stopping you asking for whatever you like. What's the contract sum and how did you specify the works?

Most quotes for private domestic extensions will usually give the bottom line only.

Fragmenting the quote is pointless unless you intend fragmenting the work.

Either you accept the price or you go elsewhere. Insisting on a breakdown implies fragmenting the contract which will scare away a large proportion of builders.
