Can anyone tell me the cable size needed for a 9.8 KW electric shower, there is a run currently of about 14mts of 6mm, which has been suppling a 8.6Kw. Is this sufficient to upgrade to a 9.8?

As Davy has said, assuming the cable does'nt run within insulation for any more than 500mm 6mm T&E is OK for a 9.8kW shower.

Hmm. My general rule of thumb is 6 for up to 8,5 and min. 10 beyond that. You have to be very careful there are no other factors involved to use 6 for a 9.8 shower.

42.61A @ 230, which is very close to the 46 maximum using Method 1.

You still have to derate even with 500mm of insulation, don't you?

If you have more, you can effectivel halve the CCC of the cable.

I would fit 10mm², then you can upgrade again in the future without worry.
