Personally, which is without gcol's immense skills, I find it easier to achieve a square edge with a jigsaw than a hand grinder, 'cos it has a footplate.
topps tiles seem to have a ceramic range, i know porcelain would be better but i have alot of curves to do (concealed bathroom suites and shower trays), so they need to be easier to cut.
Will try angle grinder, jigsaw blades and nibbling......i wish someone would invent a tool for this, maybe like a laminate trimmer with awesome power!

Anywho, I find that if you want to cut a square section from a tile then cutting as far as you can get on the surface side of the tile, then turning over and completeing the cut "by the rack of the eye" for the last half inch or so on the back of the tile, takes literally seconds. You've gotta use a decent diamond blade though, and marcrist make top notch blades. They're about half the width of a regular blade, cut about twice as fast and give a perfect cut edge.
I have no use for one of those purpose built tile cutters Moz - I just use a bog standard green Bosch grinder with a very good blade in it. Having said that, if you know of a quiet grinder that doesn't cost £220 please let me know cause my Bosch one makes a racket.
