Can't open door

Hi All

Slight problem with our back door....

The handle doesn't pull the latch back so its impossible to open the door ?

Any ideas on how to get it open ? Can you get a very slim saw blade to fit between the door and the frame so I can cut through the latch ?

is it a plastic door?

What sort of lock or latch is it? How old?

Will the handle come off easily?

How long has it been getting difficult? Does the latch move a bit, or not at all?

Thanks JD - its a wooden door

no the latch doesn't move at all - and yes the handles come off ok - but turning the spindle doesn't seem to help

[Alarm]

If the hacksaw blade can be inserted use it to retract the latch rather than cut it.
Once open remove the lockcase and inspect the bolt work for damage.
