the pipes under the floorboards just next to the radiator in my bedroom have a quiet but high pitched whistle! especially when they are switched on first thing in the morning, thus ruining my girlfriends sleep as she is a bit sensitive to those kind of noises.

i am fairly sure there isn't a leak.

if i turn the thermostatic radiator valve a bit (and back) is usually stops, at least temporarily. i thought it was the valve so i changed it but no joy.

i am wondering if it could be trapped air vibrating the pipes? they are 10mm diameter ones and quite curly wurly.

maybe someone might recognise the problem?

thanks
rog

Try closing (or opening) the valve on the other side to the trv, it could be the flow through the rad. Do this as its making the noise so you don't un-balance (is that a real word  ) the rest of your radiators.

It would help more if you could tell us which tune the pipes are whistling.
Is it a high pitch or low pitch whistling?

yes i'll try adjusting the other valve next time it wakes me up. i'm not so sensitive i think..

it's a very high pitched whistle, probably louder than the range of human hearing but no dog to test it out on!

that reminds me, children hear higher frequencies i think - maybe my gf has the same special powers.
