Do washing machines and dishwashers need to have check valves.

In a local poodle parlour the water authority decided that because the water in the washing machines would be dirtier they'd insist on them being fed from cisterns. WHich meant the washing machines wouldn't take in water. So they compromised and settled on DCV's and some sort of antisyphon valve on the mains.
So if you're washing nappies you'd better tell...

some washing machines have check valves built in and some dont
you can buy valves with integral checks built in
Some water autoritys insist on check valves fitted
