Am about to remove a chimney breast from the living room of a friends house. Upstairs has already been removed so no issues there. Outside of the wall where chimney breast is, is a garage with a brick wall and flat roof. The outside of the chimney breast appears to sit on top of the flat roof of the garage where it comes out of the wall from the living room. The joists from upstairs go into the wall and do not appear to be supported by the chimney breast and are secure on the wall for now ! I have removed the outside layer of bricks around the chimney breast and can now see the flue and the inside layer of bricks. Can anybody advise me where I should pay attention to supports etc from this point on.
