I called the company they were being very problematic. I am getting a second engineer out and then if he confirms the flue is ok I am going to keep the fire capped. I just need to confirm there is no damage to the flue so the tenant is off the hook for any damage.
I used to have a local plumber - wonderful man who did all my gaswork, old school - he had no mobile, but as all good things he finally retired. Now I have tries a few engineers and they all caused more problems so I went with a local company that provides gas maintenance plan and certificate.
I was going to go with BG or Homeserve but heard decided to try out a local provider.
