I have a old crabtree consumer unit with type 1 circuit breakers in it.
I want to put an extra breaker in, do I have to use the original type 1 breakers or can I use the new type b breakers.

You might find that new ones don't fit. What old kind have you got? Are they by any chance brown?

The breakers are white and the consumer unit is a bs6000 and was installed in 1992.

Generally speaking, providing you can get the correct breaker to fit into the consumer unit it does not matter wether it is a type 1 or a type B, it does however mean that the circuit that the MCB is supplying must be checked for suitability with a type B breaker.
