cold water downstairs, none upstairs, any ideas?

Having gone to the toilet i tried to flush and nothing happened, i checked the cistern and saw that there is no water in it, then checked the taps, hot one is working fine but no cold water. cold tap downstairs works fine, i am able to flush if i fill the cistern up manually.

does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong or possible remedies.

Very often the CW upstairs is from a big tank in the loft tho the kitchen sink tap ia always off the mains. So it could be you have a blockage in the supply fom the tank in the loft. It also feeds the hot taps via a separate tap, assuming you have a HW tank, so the big tank in the loft must have water in it

thanks chris, it could be the case i ddn't know if it would be an air lock or something? the hot water is fine, i assume i am going to have to call a plumber.
