Hi Folks,

Apologies for the balatant lack of knowledge in this post, but I am having trouble finding some information regarding concrete mix ratios. Does anyone have any good resources on the web that they would care to share, so i can read up on what mix ratios are use for what purpose?

The reason I ask, is that I would like to build a brick oven in my back garden. I need to lay a foundation slab onto some clayey soil. I also have some concrete blocks to lay as a base, some decorative bricks to lay, and also some rendering to cover the concrete blocks.

I have just acquired an electric cement mixer, and I about ready to work out quantities of cement/sand/sharp sand/aggregate etc, but I need to read up on the mix ratios and any special additives to use...

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Buy bags of ballast - ie sand and gravel mixed

Use a shovel, and 1 cement to 4 or 5 ballast. No additives except water
