I am building an extension for the outlaws and decided to jet wash the roof tiles on the existing building to rid it of moss and restore its original colour....

However! I ended up removing the sandy surface too and exposing the bare concrete of the tile. I think it looks fine, but the neighbour recons the concrete will crack without being protected. I'm not so sure. I don't really want to be painting the roof now and every ten years from now on....
Should I leave them bare?

Thanks chap, yeah, can't see why they have to be painted...the concrete surface now exposed is smooth so moss can't get as good a grip and water is unlikely to get into cracks and cause spalling. Just hope the outlaws like the look......

The best way to remove the moss is to scrape it off and then apply a moss killer, such as a fungicide. I wouldn't recommend using a jet washer.

I don't think you should worry about the tiles, all concrete tiles lose their coloured finish after a few years of being laid anyway, it's only a surface colourant.

Most old roof tiles would also have the same bleached look if it wasn't for all the weathering, moss and lichen growing on them.

The neighbour has been reading too many cheesy leaflets from cowboys trying scare people into having their roofs painted red.
