Hi Guys........am just replacing all ground floors to normal spec for building regs. Intention is to float concrete to an acceptable finish and avoid screeding..

The question is about adding glass fibres to the concrete mix which will be layed at a thickness of 100mm over floor area of 16sq mgr. I have heard about adding the fibre but don't know exactly what to ask for and does it work?.

Any thoughts out there...........thanks

Unless someone said you need it, its not worth the extra. Also, with troweling the floor finish, you may want to have concrete put on a bit lower and use levelling compound to finish it off smooth. Otherwise you may find that your idea of a well finished floor is different to a builder's.

Fibres control shrinkage cracks in screed, not concrete

You wont get an acceptable surface finish with just concrete

Hi Woody..........I will be working off battens and giving the concrete a very careful float as it is laid........with this method don't you think a good enough final finish can be obtained??[/code]

The stones and water (when it dries) will prevent you getting a smooth surface no matter how much you trowel it. And you just wont be able to work the concrete to get it level and flat over the width of the floor

You will trowel it like a good 'un and it will look nice a shiny when wet, but when it dries with will be like the Lickey Hills
