Could anyone give some advice here, please. My elderly folks could have done with a little extra heat over the winter in addition to what is provided by their combi-boiler CH. They have a supplementary gas heater as shown below but the guy that conducted their most recent CH service said that it looked a “bit dodgy”. He was concerned about the gas valve and the heater itself but he did not actually undertake any real examination of any of these items.
It is entirely accepted that a gas heater of over 20 years vintage may well not come up to modern gas-safe requirements so a new heater would be essential. That said, what would be required with regards to lining the chimney as perhaps the existing lining would fall foul of standards also. There are a couple of photos looking up into the flue. I fully appreciate that remedial work cannot be specified from these pics but a few words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
