I am wondering how difficult it would be to construct a cellar under my existing garage which is separate from the house but adjoined on both sides by neighbours garages. Therefore, would need to prop up the retaining walls on both sides before putting in some sort of piles to support these walls. I know this is likely to be expensive but cheaper than moving. Has anyone done something like this - if so, would appreciate advice.

Thanks

Nope probably cheaper to move..

Why do you need a cellar.. wine/beer can be stored in a garage too..

Not essential - just an idea. If the great Esacpees can do it then it can be done. Need extra storage/workshop space but do not agree with mortaging myself up to the hilt to get (what will turn out to be) a small increase in space.

This is technically possible, but usually only makes sense for very expensive houses in central London.

Quite so, ;) and there are London companies who specialise in doing it
