I have a baxi back boiler with gas fire front. The gas fire is never used as the house has central heating supplied by back boiler, etc.

Does the fire need to be exposed to aid ventilation for the boiler or would it be ok to build a cupboard around it? I thought all the ventilation would be done through the chimney flue but someone has said the fire needs to be left exposed.

Nope that fire is one and the same with the boiler

if you cover the fire the boiler will not recieve air for combustion

dont do it

What if the cupboard had one of those perforated radiator covers on the front of it, would it let enough air in to the boiler?

nope you must impede the fire in anyway, you also have maintenace, and fire saftey issues to consider to

Ok, thanks for the advice. Couple more questions though if you dont mind.

1 Why the 2 vents on the roof, thought one was air intake and other exhaust.

2 Are there any back boilers available without fire front that can be installed in hearth?

Forgot to mention, boiler/fire is Baxi GF3 super

boiler/fire take ALL their combustion air from the room which it is sited in, and the flue gasses go up through the chimney....so also dont cover up any ventilation in that room......

no, all backboilers come with a fire front....
