Manged to slip in the attic and cracked the hallway ceiling.
I'm now trying to sort out the crack. I've added a batten between two joists above the cracked ceiling. I've then put a few screws into the ceiling up to the batten in an attempt to flatten out the crack.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but the crack will not flatten out. I've tried dropping the batten slightly, but this made no difference.

Any suggestions please?

You'll never get it to fit back as it was as it gets debris in the crack. What I do is saw along the crack with a plasterboard saw (any small saw or knife will do). Then line it all up and fill the slot that you made with the saw with filler, leave to dry and sand lightly, and do the same to copy the artex with the filler. Paint and put the kettle on.
