Found this in a cupboard at the top of the stairs. It's still connected to the gas main so I'm leaving well alone for now. Anyone know what would have been connected here?

Some kind of calor bottle style heater, but without the bottle?

Will probably get this removed when we get someone round to redo the gas for new kitchen.

That is called a restrictor elbow.used to connect fires and wall mounted heaters. It has not been plugged and therefore if it is still live I rec you get it properly sealed.

Its classed as AT RISK, just get in cut back underfloor and capped, with a soldered cap, or stick a plug in it, with paste, or gas PTFE, obviously gas safe registered guy will need 2 do it, take the floor boards up for him and when they do your kitchen gas, he might do it free for you
