Cutting slabs - 9" grinder - diamond wheel?

I've used that very blade, and unless they have improved it recently it probably won't last cutting ten 600mm slabs (6m @ 40mm deep) without dulling noticeably so consider it a one-use disc. It depends on the slabs though - some cut like butter and some cut like steel. A stone disc will likely burn out before the job is done.

I find the Norton 'Expert' multipurpose discs last a long time even with hard stone and forgive hitting the occasional bolt, etc., but they are about four times as expensive to buy so if you only need it for this one job go for the Screwfix/Erbauer one.

A diamond blade will be a much faster cut and will obviously last a long time.

Any old diamond blade will do so buy the cheapest one if its not something you will use again much.

In xdave's case the blade probably glazed as a result of cutting a very hard material like pressed concrete continuously. The blade forms a glaze which then doesn't grip the material and just spins without really cutting.

To solve this all you need to do is make a number of rough cuts on a different material such as a spare brick to remove the glaze.
