Hi guys,

My Aunty has a flat with 7 rooms each with a light. In 4 of the rooms (one side of the flat) the lights have suddenly become very dim, whilst the remaining 3 lights are working perfectly. The fuse box has 3 light fuse slots, but all connections to the lights are through just one of the fuses.

Any ideas why the problem could be?

Lighting is wired in series so I would suspect that one circuit (radial) has a loose connection. If you are experienced in fault finding check the circuit for continuity, if not call an electrician.

Yes Ebee, series e.g. one after another.
The OP is unlikely to understand terms such as radials.

However Series actually means each bulb in turn, i.e. phase--->lamp--->lamp--->lamp--->Neutral.

You're thinking Parallel.

Phase ----------------------------------
|lamp |lamp |lamp
Neutral---------------------------------

God! some people can be so pedantic!!!

Ok for the purists out there here is my reply to the original post:-

"Lighting is wired from one ceiling rose to another so I would suspect that one circuit (radial) has a loose connection. If you are experienced in fault finding check the circuit for continuity, if not call an electrician."
