Hi,

I decided to change the existing dining room dimmer switch from gold to silver. It's never worked as a dimmer, simply on or off. I duplicated the arrangement of cables from the old switch to the new one and it all worked fine... For a while.

It still didn't dim but was happy as on off for a few hours then stopped working. I tried a new switch and that didn't work either. All the other lights on the downstairs circuit work but this one.

Any help would be appreciated.

what type of light/lamps you trying to dim
they need to be compatible

Hi 333rocky333,

It's a 5x40w candelabra style fixture. The dimmer switch is rated 400w.

Thanks,
Adam

Ok, is it fitted with normal type 40 watt lamps though, halogen or tungsten type

or the energy saving lamps you get nowadays which are generally not dimmable

333rocky333 - normal bulbs, not energy saving
RFlighting - no, there's another switch in the lounge which controls the light, but that isn't work now either. However this is a double switch and the other switch in the same unit is still working properly.

Thanks,
Adam

We need pictures behind both switches!
