A fried asked me to disconnect her gas cooker. It is connected using a flexible pipe into a bayonet fitting.
Is it legal for me to unplug this for her? I do not want to break any laws.
I would spray the fitting on the wall with leak detector spray after unplugging the flexible pipe. If there is a leak I know she would need a gas fitter, as in that case I would turn off the gas at the meter.

Anyone is able to disconnect appliance from bayonet fitting as that is the sole reason for fitting it.

Thanks,
I thought that was the situation but wanted an up to date opinion.

It really depends on whats happening after you unplug it. If the cooker is being removed permanently then the bayonet fitting should be removed and a cap fitted. This should be done by a registered person. If a new cooker is being connected, this again should be done by a registered installer as there are safety checks to be done. If you're moving the cooker to clean behind it etc, then its ok for you to disconnect and reconnect.

Rightly or wrongly, a bayonet is an accepted method of permnent disconnection. It is wise to purchase some Leak detector Fluid to test for effective sealing of bayonet.
