In my house now there are really too many ceiling and wall lights on one 5amp lighting circuit. Pendants number 14 and wall lights number 8. The average wattage is around 50 (there are roughly as many 60s as 40s) as we don't need to switch them all on together fortunately, we never test the 1200watt limit for the 5amp fuse.
Would it be legitimate to divide this radial circuit at about a mid-way point say, attach two junction boxes (one at each end, where the one cable is divided), and then continue from one junction box with a new cable back to the CU creating a separate, or extra, radial circuit. The other junction box would be a termination devise, or would a Chocbox serve this purpose better?

its ok but it is gnerally preferable to minimise the number of joints

the best way is to remove the cable runnign from one fitting to the next and then fit a new cable direct to the CU from the fitting
