hi all my wife snapped the key in the barrel of one of our doors, its a euro barrel ( i think) i didnt realise you could break them so drilled it out to no avail then ended up snapping the barrel anyway. but it still wont opencan someone explain the workings of thelock to me so that i can figure out how t open it please, as you can see from the pic attached there is nothing of the barrel left, and i understand that i can put something in and turn it to open the doorbut whether i dammaged it when drilling im not sure, but it wont open.
the locks that slide out at the top and bottom of the door have disengaged so it is just the deadlock ? in the middle of the door that is keeping it locked. if anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate the help.
thanks
Bill

You need to turn the lock like the euro would have done.

Have you got a spare lock that you can slip in, and start the mechansim again.

You just move the little lug inside with a screwdriver that's all the lock does.

That wouldn't work because the screw is still in place thus stopping the new barrel sliding in, you need a bent screwdriver or a proper barrel key to replicate the cam movement to unlock the lock

thanks for the replies, i have tried moving the lug with a bent screw an allen key etc but cant seem to locate itnothing seems to want to move in there

Use a Allen key held in a pair of pliers and turn the part that the lock cam would normally turn and the door should open.

Just tried taking mine out to see if I can get a picture but no luck, it will be on the outer edge side of the door. just needs flicking up or down according the the door. Just look at the old lock and you will see the lug that operates it (often black in colour) you can then work out how it operates.

This will give you a idea how the lock works, you may be able to work out what you need to do

Should have unlocked while you still had key in it. Or turned it with a screwdriver once drill had destroyed pins.

I wonder if the lock assembly has jammed explaining why the key broke?
