Hi

Anybody know advantages / disadvantages of using / fitting a double bend versus a straight immersion heater.

My thoughts ...

Water nearer the top of the tank should heat up quicker with the double bend?

If you do not have room for a straight type then the double bend type is only option.

Any other thoughts / comments anyone please?

Thanks

I am not sure exactly what you are asking.

Short elements like 11" and 18" are usually double bend and intended for horizontal use.

Long straight elements are usually 27" or 36" and normally used vertically at the top of a cylinder.

The top entry elements will only heat down to their depth like 27" down in most cases. Thats why a 36" element is best used in a taller cylinder.

They are just being lazy! Same photo for the two different types!

But be aware that their long life elements are NOT suitable for stainless cylinders because the thermostat pockets are not also made of the incaloy material.
