i want to fit 6 downlighters in my soffits what is the best way to wire them is it twin and earth in twin and earth out on each light or is there a better way (is this what they call daisy chain) i have a live feed from a new ceiling rose and the downlighters will be controlled from one light switch

Yes, T+E in and out at each light. The last one in the chain will have just T+E in. Wire both Phase (Live) wires together and both Neutrals together at each light, i.e. in parallel not series.

If you're putting downlights in soffits you should be using IP rated downlights (e.g. Showerlites).
 
Be careful that the soffits are not asbestos.If they are wood then the downlighters must be rated for mounting in combustible material ('F' rated)
