Hi all.
Im just about to change the rad in the bathroom to a towel radiator.
the old rads off (thanks to you guys) and the old rad is ready to go on but I need to change the valves and adjust a pipe.

what is the best way to drain the system?
the combi is upstairs and if it makes any difference its a potterton gold?
thanks
Alan

Sometimes you can change valves without draining, as long as you only change one valve at a time. Try turning the flow and return pipe isolators off under the boiler. Then, slowly undo the nut at the bottom of one of the valves. If it's a gusher, you may need to drain down. If you're lucky, nothing much may come out, and you can put the new valve on before tackling the other one.

If you just want to drain down instead, you need to find you drain cock(s), which will ususally be under downstairs radiator(s). Attach a hose, turn the square part on the cock anticlockwise, and open a couple of radiator bleed valves on upstairs rads to help draining.
