My central heating is controlled via a Drayton Tempus Seven programmer gone haywire!

The control box is turning on and off intermittantly and regularly (sometimes staying on for a few minutes, sometimes switching on and off every few seconds!), and therefore the boiler is constantly firing up and turning off. As a result the radiators are luke warm at best. I am not sure whether I may cause damage to the boiler by leaving it on?

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Have you changed the battery (IIRC it's a pp3) in the prog.

It's mains operated. I have turned it off and back on at the fused spur to see if it would somehow fix itself that way! predictably no luck.

Buy a new programmer, loosen the two screws underneath the drayton and they just unhook off the backplate. No wiring required.

Thanks. It's and old Tempus Seven. Is it the case that I can simply buy a new Tempus Seven and fix it to the old back-plate?

Yes as long as your current programmer has a backplate.
(im not familiar with the older tempus 7)
