Hi, newbie to the forum.

I'm building a deck and despite marking up a ledger board to not hit any mortar lines (and go into the brick instead) I've managed to drill 3 x 14mm holes directly into the damp proof course later of mortar.

The other 4 holes are all above the dpc and this idea was to stagger the anchors vertically at 400mm centres horizontally and I've spaced the ledger 10mm off the wall to reduce ingress. It's a 6 x 2 @ 2.8m long.

They are verically orientated hollow facing bricks and I am going to use the Fischer FIS P plus injectable synthetic polyester resin mortar with the Fischer wall anchors to attach the ledger.

My question is, shall I fill these 3 holes in again with a DIY injectable dpc and drill them afresh above / below, or will the FIS P plus create a waterproof barrier like the membrane that was already there?

The cill above protrudes far enough and the spacers will mean the holes above dpc won't be a problem.

I can't see into the hole far enough to see if I've pierced it all the way back in the hole but can just about make out the remnants of it at the side of a couple of the holes (might be able to see on the images).

Annoyingly the structure being attached to is a fairly recent extension and I can't believe I've c**ked this up after being so meticulous with the rest of it! (there are 2 other freestanding decks that this part links up to that I'm quite proud of being a DIYer)

Thanks in advance,

Ross

Its job is really to stop water being sucked up by the brick, rather than provide a water proof barrier. Its highly unlikely that these holes once filled will cause a problem.

You have to remember that its job is to prevent rising damp. i.e. water being sucked up from the ground due to capillary reaction.

A frame fixer or plastic rawl plug and screw wont stop this significantly.

I would say if you're filling the holes with resin, that will help.

There are several ways rising damp can occur. Capillarity (your "sucked up") is just one, but there is also being pushed up by water under pressure. Plus others.

This is why damp can rise to different levels in different materials and locations and under different conditions.

And this is why the DPC in the OP's case is a barrier, and the barrier should be maintained.

yeah but we are talking one hole which is going to be filled with either resin (waterproof) or a plastic plug (also fairly waterproof).
