Hi Guys,

Got a bit of bother with a towel rail. I think the heating element needs replacing, but I don't know how to do this without getting wet.
I do not know the difference between the two valves taking water in and taking water out in order to isolate the rail from the CH system.

I have tried several positions on the pipe with the threaded square end but each time I open the bleed valve - the highest in my system - I get a jet of water.

aNY ADVICE APPRECIATED

Thanks

James

You need to turn both valves off. (Clockwise) This will stop water entering, but the towel rail will still be full of water. This can be drained out by cracking one of the valve to towel rail joints open and allowing it to drain into a suitable receptacle.

I'd advise you either lift the floorcovering or protect it, if there's any black oxide sludge in the system this will stain permanently!!

Once you have done necessary repairs, retighten the joint, slowly open valves to allow towel rail to refill. If you have a sealed system pressure will need topping up again to 1 - 1.5 bar.

Cheers Hugh,

The valves both have shiny covers, One unscrews whole revealing a straight screwdriver slot, The other has a small threaded hole within a square shaped head and I cann just unscrew the shiny end from this threaded hole.

Presumably the one with the screwdriver slot is water in; but this and the square one both get turned 90Deg to stop the flow?

Thanks,

James.
