Dumbfounded - why wont the rads warm up !

Interesting comments, and thanks for the input.

About a year ago I had to replace a small cylinder shaped air seperator as it was furred up at the 15mm end that connected to the feed from the F/E tank. As this happened at 9pm (things like this always do !) I simply drained down and replaced this with a short length of 22mm pipe, tee to the expansion pipe, and reduced tee for the 15mm feed from the tank.

I've received various comments that these seperators are good, a waste of time, or essential. Ive also been told by various plumbers that the expansion pipe should form a tee with the feed from the boiler and pump, with the cold water feed from the F/E tank prior to this (6 inches prior to the tee), whilst others have said that I have it right with the reversed (ie the coldwater feed is directly in-line with the pump - hopefully the image below will help clarify the system as installed !
