I recently replaced my HW cylinder and discovered that the supply to the immersion heater which has been there for 20 years has a e-n short.

This is a dedicated feed and the board end was not earthed but has an MCB.

Running a new cable is not practical so immersion is dissed.
I would like to use this for a pump feed however.
Would it be safe to use a seperate earth feed.?
Would it be acceptable ?

A 4mm single core earth is available which goes back to the board.
Any special labelling requirments ?

Edit, to be clear this has already been done but having now discovered it can i use it ?

That is what i thought.
I had hoped to get it rectified under guarantee but neighbour has now said guarantee was only 15 years.
Quite annoyed that someone actually connected this in the first place, they clearly knew of the fault.
Testing from the socket shows it to be ok at first until i opened up the boxes.

are you sure there IS a N-E fault?
if you're measuring from the immersion end with the N and E still connected in the board, and using just a continuity meter, then it's possible you're reading the PME connection at the cutout ( if you have a PME or TN-C-S supply.. )
