Hello all'
We had some work done on our combi boiler' the chap has bonded all six pipes together with clamps and a strip of steel about 10mm wide' He has pulled this strip of steel tight and now all the noise from the roof space an the boiler echoes around the piping in the house' you walk past the boiler and say something' it kind of echoes'
So how to get around this problem is my questionm'
Appreciated in avance'

Just below the boiler below the scale collector the six pipes are bonded to gether

|_|_|_|_|_| making the noise from each pipe bounce to the next one and make the boiler echo'

Thank you'

Supplementary bonding should be done with approved earth cable, 4mm2 upwards will do, not 10mm2 wide steel

sounds like he has used the spare tail to bond one earth clamp to another, ive seen it done this way before. they need slackening off and pulling out so there all seperate, retightening, and some earth cable used.

Much appreciated for the input' I thought it was kind of crazy to do so tight' there is quite a bit of a tail' so I shall loosen it all and try to get some slack inbetween the piping' if no joy' refitt the clamps with earth wire' only the overflow would have no direct earth wire on if the clamps where removed' there are four main earth wires' one gas' one water' the othe two go to the radiator pipes'
Seeing as the overfolow pipe is all connected to the same metal plate' what would be the purpose of having this second earth bonding strip tying the six pipes together'
It just creates noise'

Be well'

The whole point of connecting with the earthing wire is that it allows some movement between the pipes.

The earth wire is applied as a loop so that no movement is transmitted between the pipes.

Thank you argyl'

We did wonder if this is of what had happened'
We went out' got new piping and the chap tied the six pipes together'

We can now hear the cars on the mainroad' the planes take off at the airport' all the normal house expansion and shrinkage noises now sound through the pipes and the radiators' kind of infra sound makes the copper piping sing'

So the clamps come off and take out the 10mm steel band and then loop the clamps with proper earth wire' so the noise runs it's proper individual roots instead of sounding through the boiler and the roof ducting' it used to be quiet here' but since the chap left' well you can guess'

Appreciated for your time'

Don't cut the earth wire to each clamp. You should use an continuous earth from the first clamp to the last, just stripping the insulation off at each clamp for fixing.
